Legendary broadcaster Larry King used to write a weekly column for USA Today from 1982 until 2001.  It was written in the style of three-dot columnists who came before him, dating back to the early 20th century.  I miss those columns, which often left me wondering if ol’ Larry had lost his marbles.  Maybe he was just smarter than the rest of us…

Speaking of those columns…

I don’t know if the Padres are going to be any better in 2015 but they’re definitely more interesting to interview. A.J. Preller upgraded the personality on his roster and we thank him for that…

Philip Rivers will be working with his fourth different offensive coordinator in four years if Frank Reich gets a head-coaching gig.  I’m sure Mike McCoy has input on the offense but that’s unwelcome turnover…

I’m looking forward to the National Championship Game but dreading the Fallout Boy that comes with it.  It’s irritating.  I’m starting to sound too much like Larry, aren’t I? …

Like the Buckeyes’ chances on Monday.  They’ve knocked out two Heisman finalists already and now get the guy who won it…

Already this week, I’ve seen people on TV debate whether Tony Romo or Joe Flacco is the best QB in the NFL. Hilarious. We haven’t even seen Brady, Manning, Rodgers or Wilson play this postseason, kids.  R-E-L-A-X…

Congrats to Xolos players Paul Arriola and Fernando Arce JR. of Chula Vista who were named to the U.S. National Team Under-20 roster.  Qualifying for the U-20 World Cup begins Friday against Guatamala (games on Fox Sports 2). …

My friend Amanda makes the best lasagna I’ve ever had. Seriously, I just had some. …

Why would a team named the Red Storm wear blue uniforms? Makes no sense to me…

Best show on television these days?  “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.”  Smart, funny, educational and lots of food porn…

Someone recently asked if I could get Eric Church tickets for them. Never heard of him. You? …

Now that I actually can see “The Interview,” I have no interest in doing so. Think I’ll pass…

”American Sniper,” on the other hand…

Finally, the Hall of Fame announcements came on Tuesday and congrats to the class of 2015.  It’s a bittersweet week for the radio show, however, and for our listeners.

Tony Gwynn always made himself available to us the week of the announcements. I really missed that conversation this week and am guessing many of you did as well.

Bet Tony would have liked this group, especially with another member of the 3,000-hit club heading to Cooperstown.
