Sergeant Michael Simonsen

Sergeant Simonsen enlisted in the Marine Corps on February 22, 2005, and attended 1st Recruit Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Ca. After completing Military Police School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo he was assigned to Marine Corps Air Station, Headquarters and Support Squadron Camp Pendleton, Calif.

In March 2007 he deployed to Trebil Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom Task Force Military Police where he served a Fire Team Leader and Corporal of the Guard. While deployed to Iraq he was part of over 100 dismounted patrols and trained the Iraqi Police. He was also served a vehicle commander for numerous vehicle mounted missions for route security and Port of Entry security from Jordan to Iraq. He returned to MCAS Camp Pendleton when returning to the United States.

In November 2009 he was sent to the Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. While serving as an Instructor at MP School, he served as the primary instructor for Emergency Vehicle Operation and numerous other Law Enforcement classes. He served as a Class Advisor training and mentoring over 160 Marines, and graduating them to become Military Policeman. While serving as a Class Advisor and Instructor he certified over 400 Marines in earning their Grey Belts in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. In August 2011 he was appointed the Detachment Color Sergeant preforming over 30 events throughout the state of Missouri. In October 2012, he received orders to Drill Instructor School, San Diego, Calif.

In January 2013, he reported Drill Instructor School. Upon completion of DI School, he was assigned to Recruit Training Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Mike Company where he is currently serving as an Experienced Drill Instructor.  As a Drill Instructor, Sgt Simonsen has earned Honor platoon, Band of Brothers and was recently selected as the Drill Instructor of the quarter for the Battalion, for the last quarter of fiscal year 2013.

Sergeant Simonsens’ personal awards consist of a Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, (7) Certificate of Commendations, Certificate of Appreciation, and numerous Meritorious Masts and Letters of Appreciation.
