Padres sign LHP Baumann to 1-year deal – MLB.com
The Padres signed left-hander Buddy Baumann to a one-year deal on Monday. Baumann, 28, spent the 2015 season with the Royals’ Triple-A Omaha affiliate as both a starting pitcher and a relief pitcher.

Injured San Diego State quarterback Maxwell Smith still has hopes of playing in Thursday’s Hawaii Bowl against Cincinnati, but Smith’s availability remains to be seen. Smith suffered a torn left ACL in SDSU’s regular-season finale against Nevada, but he is delaying surgery and has been getting physical therapy in an effort to play in the bowl game.
