Earl Edwards comments on Division I referendum vote

Director of Athletics
January 27, 2016

Following UC San Diego’s A.S. Council vote tonight (29-0) to put a fee referendum that would approve funding for a move to NCAA Division I to a vote of the students.

“I am very pleased with tonight’s decision by the A.S. Council. To approve putting a vote on the move of the Intercollegiate Athletics program to NCAA Division I in the hands of our undergraduate students is part of a logical progression. This has been a student-centered movement from the beginning. We feel that aligning ourselves with “like” institutions at the Division I level would be a positive and transformative step for UC San Diego. Giving students the opportunity to vote on this potential transition is something we welcome.”
