The San Diego Padres broke out of their scoreless slump in a big way, scoring 13 runs at Coors Field on their way to a 13-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

Matt Kemp, a well-known slow starter at the plate, finished the day 4-6 with 4 RBIs and a 3-run HR. He was nearly matched by Yangervis Solarte, who finished 3-5 with 4 RBIs and a walk.

The Padres finished the game without a single fielding error, and they got a tremendous pitching performance from Robbie Erlin (3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 runs) out of the bullpen after Colin Rea (3.1 IP, 6 H, 5 earned runs) got off to a rocky start. Kevin Quakenbush pitched another scoreless inning and Ryan Buchter gave up a solo HR to rookie phenom SS Trevor Story in the 9th inning, when the game was all but finished.

The win is the Padres’ first of the year, and they’ll hope to score even more when they take on the Rockies tomorrow at 5:10pm. You can catch that game and every game on The Mighty 1090.
