Padres claim LHP Brad Hand off waivers

Miami Marlins pitcher Brad Hand

During today’s San Diego Padres game against the Colorado Rockies, the team announced that they had successfully executed a claim on former Miami Marlins LHP Brad Hand.

Hand has spent parts of five seasons with the Marlins, posting a 5.30 ERA in 93.1 innings of work in 2015. Pitching as both a starter and a reliever, Hand found more success coming out of the bullpen. He is expected to be primarily a reliever for the Padres.

With the addition of Brad Hand, the Padres now have the requisite 25 men on their active roster. There’s no word, yet, on when Hand will join the team, but it will likely be before the conclusion of their series against the Colorado Rockies.
