Pirate is a shy, friendly boy who came to Rescue in January 2016. He’s a bit on the thin side, but we are working on that. Once he’s comfortable in his setting, he’s tends to develop a better appetite and beefs up a bit.
It takes a little bit of time to get Pirate to trust new people. Pirate is in training knows his basic commands (after which he will very gently take a treat from one’s hand.) Pirate loves being petted and is OK with being brushed. You can tell that he wasn’t allowed on the furniture in his past life, because he will not go on furniture unless invited.
He is a submissive and respectful dog, and gets along with his foster siblings (currently a female GSD and a Yorkie) . Pirate barks at cats when on a walk, so we don’t know if he’d like them in “his” home. We don’t know how he feels about kids.
For a “more mature” dog, Pirate has a lot of energy. Pirate loves to play, but plays gently. He walks nicely on a leash; in fact, he LOVES to go for a walk.
Pirate is crate-trained, but also sleeps well and hangs out with his foster siblings outside of the crate. He can sometimes be a bit of a “Nervous Nelly,” and would probably do best with at least one other confident medium-sized or large dog who likes to play.
