Padres place Solarte on DL, recall Amarista

San Diego Padres infielder Alexi Amarista celebrates game-winning hit

The good news is that the injury that knocked Yangervis Solarte out of yesterday’s San Diego Padres’ win over the Colorado Rockies isn’t serious. The bad news is that it is serious enough that he needs to take a couple of weeks off. The team announced today that they would be placing him on the 15-day DL.

Taking Solarte’s place will be utility infielder Alexi Amarista, recalled from the El Paso Chihuahuas. Amarista was sent to the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate out of Spring Training due to a shoulder injury.

Alexi Amarista appeared in 118 games for the Padres last season, hitting .204, and will likely act as depth at 2B and SS while Adam Rosales moves over to temporarily take Solarte’s starting third base job.
