Padres place Spangenberg on 15-day DL, call up Jemile Weeks

San Diego Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg

San Diego Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg left last night’s win over the Pittsburgh Pirates after sliding into first base on an infield single and was replaced by Alexi Amarista. Today, we found out that Spangenberg will be out at least two weeks with a left quad strain.

In Spring Training, Jemile Weeks hit .340 with 1 HR and 14 RBIs while showing off a slick glove on defense. His .992 OPS was among the best on the team, but he was sent to El Paso to start the season.

Weeks has kept up the hot start with the Chihuahuas, hitting .405 with a .500 OBP and an OPS of .905 in 10 games.

In five previous MLB seasons, Weeks hit .261 with an OPS of .682 while playing for the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox.
