The Hick Fires Vogel

The Hick from French Lick just went gangsta on his head coach Frank Vogel. And not so much that he did it, but in how he did it. Actually it’s both.

I can’t believe Larry Bird fired Frank Vogel and I can’t believe how he did it.

Bird couldn’t have handled this any worse than he did. Far be it for me to question Bird’s basketball acumen, but how the hell do you fire this guy?! Pretty much everyone in the league except Bird respects Vogel. He’s an excellent coach. He took the Pacers to the playoffs four times and twice to the conference playoffs. But apparently that wasn’t enough for Bird, who felt they didn’t score enough this year.

Hey Hick: he can only do so much with the guys you’ve given him, and nothing at all with the guys who have left or you have traded away.

Plus, he’s one of the best defensive coaches in the league, something else that is apparently lost on you.

But you’re Larry Freaking Bird, you’re calling the shots, so that’s your prerogative. But let me ask you this, if you’re going to fire a guy, shouldn’t you have someone better to replace him? Do you? Which retread are you going to slam into that spot now.

And considering what you were paying Vogel, good luck getting anyone who matters to come in and take that gig.

If I were a coach with any kind of game, I’d look at the way you did Vogel and think, if he could do that guy like that, I know he’ll do the same to me in 3 years or less. Pass.

Which brings me to my last point; if you’re going to break this guy off, do it cleanly. There’s a right way and a wrong way, and letting Vogel twist for as long as he did was all wrong. Something else, a potential replacement will see and hate.

Hope you know what you’re doing, Lar, because given what you did and how you just did it, you’re not inspiring a helluva lot confidence.

Vogel will land on his feet. You and your team, I’m not so sure about.

Bad Take, ODB

Odell Beckham Jr is a playmaker. But he’s convinced himself that he’s also a star maker. And he’s wrong. Speaking to GQ, it actually sounds like he’s taking credit for Josh Norman’s career, quote: “The reason he’s

Jets v. Fitzfatrick

This is as Jets as it gets. Less than a week from now, they’ll be on the practice field. And it looks like their alleged starting quarterback will be on the golf course. That’s where Ryan Fitzpatrick is
