Mookie Betts talks about playing in Boston, social media, and more

Social media has been known to destroy egos, careers, and even lives, especially for professional athletes. That’s one reason why Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts stays away from it altogether.

Betts, who is entering his second full season in the Major Leagues, joined The Jim Rome Show on Friday and said he tries to stay off social media as much as possible.

“You don’t necessarily lock yourself in a room, but I’m trying to stay off that stuff and try not to look as much as possible and always trying to keep a positive mindset,” Betts said. “It’s going to be tough. You’re going to go through your ups and your downs, but no matter what, all those people say, your teammates believe in you and the front office does too. So that’s what matters the most.”

Being only 23-years-old, Betts is a millennial and has grown up in a digital age. So you can only imagine how hard it is for him to put the phone down, but Betts finds distractions and other uses for his phone.

“Obviously you want to go on there and you look and what not, but the more and more you go look, the more you’re going to see negative,” Betts said. “I try and stay off, put it down, just don’t even open it up type of thing. I try and keep myself busy try and watch movies and that type of stuff and not look at it.”

The Nashville, Tennessee native is batting .291 with 14 home runs and 45 RBIs just over two months into the season, and is currently ranked 6th amongst all American League outfielders in All-Star voting.

Bad Take, ODB

Odell Beckham Jr is a playmaker. But he’s convinced himself that he’s also a star maker. And he’s wrong. Speaking to GQ, it actually sounds like he’s taking credit for Josh Norman’s career, quote: “The reason he’s

This is as Jets as it gets. Less than a week from now, they’ll be on the practice field. And it looks like their alleged starting quarterback will be on the golf course. That’s where Ryan Fitzpatrick is
