Joey Bosa, the 3rd overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and the San Diego Chargers 1st Round selection, is the only remaining unsigned rookie. Due to disagreements on his contract, Bosa is currently holding out of Chargers Training Camp, where he was expected to immediately fill the role of starting Defensive End opposite Corey Liuget.
Now comes word that Bosa’s representatives and the Chargers have not spoken since Thursday, when the two sides tried to come to an agreement that would get Bosa signed before the start of Training Camp.
Tom Telesco has said repeatedly that he does not feel comfortable giving Bosa a contract that does not include offset language, since the team denied the same request for star players like Philip Rivers and Keenan Allen in the last few years.
The first Chargers preseason game of the year is on August 13th in Tennessee against the Titans. If this holdout stretches that far, it will draw into question whether Bosa can be ready for week 1 of the NFL regular season.
