The good news from tonight’s preseason NFL game between the San Diego Chargers and the Tennessee Titans is that neither team appeared to suffer a major injury. Tourek Williams, who was the only player to leave the game with an injury for the Chargers, returned later and recorded a tackle.
Also, the Chargers’ offense looked reinvigorated by the playcall of returning Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. Philip Rivers’ only series of the evening ended with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Melvin Gordon, his first touchdown since being drafted by the team in the 1st Round over a year ago.
The bad news from Nashville is that the Chargers’ defense struggled to slow down the Titans’ offense. After the first half, Tennessee’s QBs had completed 80% of their passes (with starter Marcus Mariota finishing the night a perfect 5/5) and their RBs were averaging 10 yards per carry and a touchdown every 9 rushing attempts.
Suffice to say, John Pagano’s group appeared to miss the two players that have been talked about the most this offseason at Chargers Park: Eric Weddle (who is now a Baltimore Raven) and Joey Bosa (who is still holding out over a contract dispute with the Chargers’ front office).
