The San Diego Chargers have to trim their roster size from 90 to 75 by tomorrow, and they began that process today by waiving six players.
Required to trim the roster to 75 by Tuesday, the San Diego Chargers opted to get a head start on Monday. The team made eight moves, waiving six players, claiming running back Gus Johnson off waivers from Atlanta and placing Chris Watt on Reserve/PUP.
The six players waived were WR Torrence Allen, C Bruce Johnson,CB Michael Lee, LB Zach Hodges, DT Bruce Gaston and CB Greg Ducre.
Torrence Allen and Greg Ducre spent parts of last year with the team, but are part of very deep groups at WR and CB for the Chargers.
Gus Johnson will have a shot to earn Branden Oliver’s job, after the RB went down with a potentially season-ending Achilles injury, but won’t have a lot of time to do so.
Assuming D.J. Fluker gets healthy quickly, Chris Watt will have a hard time making it on to the Chargers’ roster without injuries to the Center and Guard position early in the 2016 season. He was essentially replaced this offseason with the signing of Matt Slauson and the drafting of Max Tuerk out of USC.
