Chargers place LB Attaochu on season-ending IR

Michael Gehlken, San Diego Chargers beat reporter for the San Diego Union-Tribune, joined the Darren Smith Show earlier today and revealed that OLB Jerry Attaochu had broken his foot in the 4th quarter of yesterday’s game and would be undergoing season-ending surgery today.

The 2014 draft class has been a particularly troubling one for General Manager Tom Telesco. Despite some bright spots in terms of talent (Jason Verrett, Chris Watt, Jerry Attaochu), everyone in the class has either struggled to stay healthy or struggled to stay on the Chargers roster.

The Chargers, as a whole, have struggled with season-ending injuries for years now. This season, however, has been particularly bad. Nearly every game this season, win or loss, has been followed by the news of an important player going down with a serious injury.

Kyle Emanuel will take over as the team’s OLB opposite Melvin Ingram, and has already gotten plenty of snaps in place of Attaochu this season.
