It was a fitting end to a turbulent season for the San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball team, losing to Colorado State for the third time this year on the heels of an impressive display of talent against Boise State the night before.
SDSU had struggled to find consistency, especially on the offensive end, all season long. Those struggles are what led to their loss last night, effectively ending their season.
After finishing 6th in the Mountain West Conference and making it only to the semi-finals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament before being topped by Colorado State, the Aztecs will not have their name called on Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament.
Despite performing well in the NIT last year, there’s a slim chance they get invited back to that tournament either, effectively ending their season and any hope for a postseason with last night’s loss.
The San Diego State Athletic Department, players, and fans now collectively hold their breath as Head Coach Steve Fisher spends his offseason deciding if he wants to return for another season or retire.
