The World Baseball Classic is coming to Petco Park, with games being played between March 14th and March 19th.
Until today, we had no idea which teams were going to move along in the tournament and play in San Diego, but now we know of three of the four teams: USA, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
USA advanced by going 2-1 in their first three games, finishing in 2nd place in Pool C. They finished behind the Dominican Republic, who went 3-0 in the first round of play.
Puerto Rico finished atop Pool D by going 3-0, including a dominating victory over the Venezuela team that was thought to be one of the early favorites to win this year’s WBC. Venezuela will play Italy tonight, with the winner of that game heading to San Diego to take on Team USA in the first round of Pool F matchups.
The top two teams from Pool F will then head to Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles for the semi-final and championship games.
