Gulls In Flight returns in advance of a big week of San Diego Gulls hockey! Join the “Voice of the Gulls” Craig Elsten, along with his color partner B.J. MacPherson, for an in-depth look at the latest news and results surrounding the Gulls. Last week saw San Diego leapfrog three teams in two games, squeaking into third place in the AHL Pacific Division and back into the playoff race. Craig and B.J. detail last week’s 4-2 win over Stockton and 4-1 victory over Milwaukee, including the key players who are making surprising contributions. Plus, the guys look ahead to four forwards possibly returning from injury over the next week and the possible impact on Dallas Eakins’ starting lineup.
Then, Craig is joined for this week’s player interview by a young man who has determinedly chased his professional hockey career, proving doubters wrong all along the way: forward Kyle Bonis. Not a part of the Ducks’ or Gulls’ plans at the start of the year, Bonis signed a Professional Try Out (PTO) contract a month into the season and has stuck around for 25 games, playing up and down the lineup and on special teams as well. Craig and Kyle start with their shared love of baseball, then branch into Bonis’ successful college career, including a run to the NCAA championship game with Ferris State (Michigan). It’s your sole audio home for a weekly Gulls hockey fix: Gulls In Flight #16: Kyle Bonis!
