Atkins homers as Rockies top Padres, 8-1

DENVER (AP) The Colorado Rockies missed an early chance to blow open Wednesday's game. They didn't waste their second opportunity.

Garrett Atkins' three-run homer capped a four-run second inning, and Troy Tulowitzki and Yorvit Torrealba homered to help the Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 8-1. The Rockies took the final two games of the series after blowing a five-run lead Monday night and losing, 15-8.

DENVER (AP) Aaron Cook tossed a five-hitter for the first shutout of his career, and the Colorado Rockies ended an eight-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Cook (11-5) struck out four and needed 79 pitches and 1 hour, 58 minutes for his second complete game of the season, eighth of his career. He didn't allow a runner past first base and faced just three batters over the minimum. ...
