	Third and Long...the Backside Dive February 1, 2010, 9:11 am It’s the day before Thanksgiving, 6am, and I’m getting prepped for a biopsy at the VA Hospital. Someone’s going to run a tube up there where the sun doesn’t shine, push a needle through the tube, punch a hole in the wall of my bowl and take samples from my prostate gland to see if I have cancer. 	Third and Long...the Preface January 13, 2010, 1:57 pm Last year, according to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 192,280 American men were diagnosed with prostate cancer. An estimated 27,360 men died from it. The disease is usually found in men over the age of 64, but can strike earlier. The five year survival rate is 100% if the cancer is caught while still confined to the prostate gland. But if it has moved out of the gland, the five year survival rate can drop to 33% or worse. No one knows exactly what causes it, and usually the cancer is discovered during the course of treating other medical problems. more...
