Coach Kentera: Excited about Padres Opening Day

Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Padres

While enjoying my vacation I have a watched a lot of college basketball and spring training baseball. I really have enjoyed watching the coaching carousel in college basketball….

Rick Barnes fired at Texas after 17 years, less than forty eight hours later hired at Tennessee.

Steve Lavin and St. Johns parted ways after five seasons and then the Red Storm hired favorite son Chris Mullin who has never coached at any level.

Glad to see Ben Howland back in college coaching. A little strange that he would take the Mississippi State job.

USD athletic director Ky Snyder pulled a surprise in hiring former Torero guard Lamont Smith. Smith most recently was the associate head coach at New Mexico. Smith has never been a head coach and will have a monumental task to get the Toreros in the upper level of the west coast conference.

Excited about opening day

It has been a long time since all of us Padre fans really looked forward to the season with high expectations . It is still hard for me to believe that the Padres have Matt Kemp and Justin Upton in the lineup. The starting rotation should be as good as any in the National League, except for the Washington Nationals. The bullpen is loaded. The defense could be a little bit of a question mark in some areas.

I am a big Alexi Amarista fan. He plays the game with tremendous passion and continues to get better at shortstop and has shortened his swing since last season.

CF Wil Myers is a real key for me, can he be the player that won the American League Rookie of the year in 2013 with Tampa Bay or the player that battled injuries in 2014.

General Manager A.J.Preller has some very interesting moves to make before opening day. So far Preller is batting 1.000.
