Cpl. Josephina Garza enlisted in the Marine Corps from Boise, Idaho, after graduating from Borah High School in 2010. She subsequently graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., the same year.
After graduating from Marine Corps Combat Training aboard Camp Geiger, N.C., she went on to her occupational specialty school aboard Camp Johnson, N.C., to become an administration specialist.
From there Garza was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., were she served as a diary clerk, diary feedback report and personal casualty report clerk, and eventually as the noncommissioned officer in charge of command support.
From MCAS, Garza deployed with Marine Transport Squadron Detachment Forward for over six months to Qatar, Afghanistan, as the administrative chief for the detachment. While there she also concurrently filled the billets of operations clerk for flight operations and eventually as the operations chief.
Garza is currently stationed aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego with the 12th Marine Corps District as the pay chief.
Garza’s personal decorations include a Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award and a Good Conduct Medal.
