Yonder Alonso on idea of playing 3B, Cory Luebke on 1st game in 3 years

Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso took a few grounders at third base before the game on Friday afternoon, throwing across the diamond to Wil Myers at first base. Skipper Bud Black mentioned the “possibility” of Alonso getting a few starts at third in the future as well as Will Middlebrooks seeing some time at shortstop. Alonso discussed his comfort level at third and the idea of playing a few games at the hot corner.

It’s been a a long road back to the Majors for Cory Luebke. He last pitched in a major league game on April 27, 2012 versus the San Francisco Giants. Two Tommy John surgeries later, Luebke, who thought he might never pitch again, discussed his long road back (pitches Saturday at Lake Elsinore) and optimism of pitching for the Padres this season.
