June’s Break Away Player: Clint Barmes

San Diego Padres infielder Clint Barmes

Clint Barmes was thought to be something of a backup option for the Padres heading into the season. At 36 years old, and on his 5th MLB team, Barmes is the very definition of the term “journeyman veteran”.

Yet, in the month of June, Barmes started about half of the team’s game and was far and away their best hitter. If he can continue to hit this way, and play good defense, it will be the best season of his career and he’ll become the full-time starter.

Clint Barmes’ June Stats:

.333 batting average
.569 slugging percentage
1 Home Run
6 Runs Batted In
